The Barkadian Socialist Republic, commonly called Barkadia, is a socialist democratic republic on the northeastern continent of Kerbin known as Sverna. It is bordered on the northwest by Nacija Slavia, on the east by Kolonia, the southeast by Faulksnia, and on the west by Omniabstracta. Barkadia covers 1,414,300.09 square kilometers and has has an estimated population of 43.68 million. Barkadia comprises of NUMBER SUBDIVISIONS and NUMBER TERRITORIES.
Barkadia for most of its history has had minimal or no interaction with the outside world. Starting in the 1400's, tribes and factions were able to trade with Yinshanese colonists and Stractan natives. After Omnabstracta gained independence, the Barkadian tribes opened up to the nation and started a cordial relationship that has lasted to this day. The Barkadian nation formed in 1732 after the several leading tribal factions decided to form together as one state. The king, Blažej Zima, ruled absolutely until his death in 1778. Afterwards, the next king, Lukas Zima, formed a parliament, which went on to function during most of modern Barkadian history. Land expansion in the 19th and early 20th century grew the nation from a small strip of coastal land to a country that spanned from the coast to the arctic. The industrial revolution came to Barkadia in the late 1800's, which developed cities like Corticis and Acus to modern levels in only a few years. Oil was found in Acus in 1907, which made the city's population and economy boom, and brought a golden age to Barkadia which lasted decades. A war against Kolonia in the late 1960's and 1970's crippled the Barkadian economy and ruined Barko-Kolonian diplomacy. There was an economic depression throughout the 1970's, which brought widespread poverty and instability. The 1980's saw a comeback of the Barkadian economy, bringing in a second era of prosperity and growth. The boom slowed in the 1990's. Even after recovery, the rich-poor divide was greater than ever, and radical factions grew resentful towards the aristocracy, which was perceived as trying to retake control of the government. In 2005, after mass election fraud committed by the monarchy, disgruntled Barkadian political groups overthrew the nation, and after brief turmoil, a socialist government lead by the Left Coalition took over the country. After another small boom in the late 2000's, Barkadia stabilized economically and politically. Relations with capitalist countries both at hime and abroad declined rapidly, and Anderia quickly replaced Serthenia in exports to the country. In 2019, after years of gradual escalations and military buildups, a short but massive war with Kolonia started, in which the True Pine, Justina, revealed Barkadian ownership of weapons of mass destruction. The war ended in a status quo ante bellum. Following the war, the economy slowly began to be rebuilt. The Bana Nuclear Disaster in September 2020 resulted in the Left Coalition, then ruled by Justína Rybárová, to lose a massive amount of popular support. In December 2020, the dominant party system ran by the Left Coalition was replaced by the new Anarchist Party, ran by Vincent Čiernik. They took power on January 1st, 2021. On April 4th, after months of negotiations, Barkadia and four other Svernan countries signed the Kora Treaty, which has since kept the peace on the continent.
Present day Barkadia is stabilizing and well developed. Its GDP, around 1.13 trillion dollars, is the second largest economy in Sverna, only surpassed by Omniabstracta. The GDDPC is comfortable, at around 25.8k a year, due to the socialist economy. The mining and oil industries allow the massive GDP, along with timber and arms trading. Barkadia is recognized as a regional power in its area. It participates in multiple alliances, mainly in the Security Treaty with Anderia. It also participates in multiple economic factions, such as the Northern Economic Sphere, and Yerisplan.
