The air force of Serria was founded as an independent service arm on 18 September 1900, at the urging of Adriano Salvatore Verrani as the ''[[Serrian Air Force#Regia Aeronautica|Regia Aeronautica]]'' (which equates to "Royal Air Force"). During the 1920s, it was involved in its first military operations in the [Great War]] alongside the Allies. After the armistice of 1934, the Serrian air force refocused and adopted the national post-war strategy of aggressive neutrality. In 1960, following the reorganization of the Serrian armed forces, the air force was given its current name ''Aeronautica Militare''.
