Pargesia, formally the Kingdom of Pargesia, is a sovereign state in northern Andolia. Its lands connect the continents of Andolia and Cancodia, sharing transcontinental borders with Andolian countries Dolfik Kingsrike in the west and Alpengau in the south, and Cancodian countries in the east. In the north, its coast meets the Nuntic Ocean. As a geographical crossroads, numerous tribes settled in the area from all over the two continents. They were first united in circa 50 CE by Traestan. After centuries of Alpengauen, Dolfik, and Serrian rule, mostly assisted by the local Andoli Serrian aristocracy, Pargesia became independent on February 22, 1901.
Today, Pargesia has a developed market with a high human development index. Strict safety regulations, guaranteed economic freedoms, tuition-free secondary education, and universal healthcare significantly provide the citizens high standards of living. Although defined as a constitutional monarchy, its citizens lack the full benefits of democratic and civil society seen in most liberal democracies, leading many to describe the current regime as "authoritarian." Its aristocratic oligopolists controls various sectors of an otherwise diversified economy via cartel. As a predominantly rural country, it is a major exporter of agricultural goods. It is a member of the Nuntic Union and an active participant in the Nuntic Collective Security Umbrella.
Etymology and terminology
The name Pargesia originated from Parrhasius, a Traestani commander who united the territory in 50 AD. It was known as "Provincia Pargecia" in the Traestani Empire. When it became a Serrian crusader republic during the Crusades, the territory adopted the names "Res publica Pargecia" and "Principatus Pargecia" in 1521 to reflect its new status as a Serrian principality. In 1804, pro-Serrian Prince Rodolfo VIII decreed "Principato del Pargezia" as the new name after he removed Traestani as an official language. In 1901, the newly-crowned King Oberto I of the newly-independent nation was proclaimed "Re di Pargezia."
